Fisheries Defense Fund

The BSC’s Fisheries Defense Fund (FDF) was established in 2002 to help fund organizations that focus on the preservation of striped bass, through either research, effective management, habitat protection, or forage protection.

The club runs two annual C&R Striped Bass tournaments as fundraisers in support of the FDF.  These events are the oldest and largest public C&R events in NJ and have allowed the FDF to provide over $78,000 in financial donations to various research and conservation minded organizations.

All proceeds raised through these events are used in support of such institutions as :  

Coastal Conservation Association of MD, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Stripers Forever, UMass/Monmouth University’s “Stripers for the Future” research campaign, Save Barnegat Bay, Rutgers University Department of Marine Science, Grey FishTag Research.

We would be remiss if we did not thank the many sponsors who have provided us funds and products over the years that have enabled us to run our successful events.  Many local B&T’s, small and large tackle manufacturers and others within the fishing community continue to provide us wonderful products to use within these events.

The efforts of the BSC Fisheries Defense Fund was acknowledged for their conservation work by On The Water Media in November of 2020.  We were honored to be presented with the 1st annual Striper Cup trophy which is "awarded to a Club, Team, or Organization that best represented the spirit of the Striper Cup: encouraging responsible participation in the striper fishery and striper conservation".

In addition our many years of support of the Gray Fishtag Research efforts led them to name one of their recently tagged fish "Berkeley" in our honor.  To learn more about the travels of this 42" striper please follow the link .......
