10th Annual BSC Summer Fluke Tournament
We are happy to announce the tournament with some minor changes for 2025 (two changes highlighted in bold in post, regarding payment deadline and submissions). The committee’s goal was to once again provide a fair and easy format for all who participate.
This year's fluke season is the same as previous. Starting this year's event on 5/4. As a result of that there will be 5 periods and an increased entry fee. This will allow the prizes for each period to remain close to the same payout (dependent on the number of participants per division).
Format: (Detailed rules pdf to follow)
We will have 5 time periods consisting of each entire month. Starting May 4th and ending the last day of fluke season Sept. 25th with both a 1st and 2nd place winner for each of the 5 time periods. In addition an overall Grand Prize winner for each division for the person who catches the largest fluke by division. NJ waters only. We hope to have both a Surf Division (land based…piers, jetty’s, inlets etc.) and a Boat/Kayak Division as long as we get a minimum of 15 participants per division.
Dates:
Period 1 Sat 5/4 to Fri 5/31
Period 2 Sat 6/1 to Sun 6/30
Period 3 Mon 7/1 to Wed 7/31
Period 4 Thurs 8/1 to Sat 8/31
Period 5 Sun 9/1 to Mon 9/25
Awards Ceremony…………Oct. General Mtg.
Cost / Prizes:
To join the tournament there will be a $50 participation fee ($10.00 per period) per division. This fee will make up the pool used to pay out the 5 period winners in the form of a Grumpy’s Bait & Tackle gift cards. There will be 2 winners per period made up of 20% of the total pool collected. 1st place will receive 70% of the pool & 2nd place will win 30% of the pool. The winners of the largest fluke submitted over the 5 periods in each division will receive a commemorative plaque.
As an example if we get 25 participants within a division the numbers would work out to each time period pool of $250 ($50 x 25 = $1250 / 5= $250 per period - 1st wins 70% or $175 / 2nd wins 30% or $75).
In addition, as they did in past years, Grumpy's has agreed to sponsor the tournament and after we have finalized all the participants we will add some additional prize money donated by Grumpy’s to the 2 divisional pools. This is very generous of Grumpy’s and I encourage all our members to frequent this great supporter of the BSC.
When all was said and done using last year as an example, our period winners for the surf division received $400 per period and boat/yak division was $250 per period. The numbers will vary depending on the actual participation within each division and will be announced once finalized......but the more who participate the better.
SAME as last year. There is no limit to first place wins. Show us what you got, and the weekend warriors should have plenty of days to fish now. You can only win first and second if no other fish is submitted (highly unlikely with the extended format).
Sign up / Payment:
Being this is a club only event we have some flexibility……and this year I am posting way ahead of time to give you plenty of time to sign up. All interested participants must sign up by paying their $50 by Saturday 5/3 11:59pm. New Rule as of this year: You can enter the tournament anytime but it will still cost you full price of entry, and you cannot fish for the remainder of the month you enter.
Payment will be accepted by :
1. Pay at the March 1st, April 2nd, general meeting. OR (not preferred) at the Flea market May 3rd
2. Paypal link Below
3. Pay at Grumpy's in SSP by putting your name & division(s) you want to enter on an envelope with payment and dropping it in the BSC weigh slip boxes - please message me you did this
4. Pay a tournament committee member directly
Fish Submission:
All fish to be entered must have a completed weigh slip from any retail commercial B&T shop in NJ. The weigh slip must include the participants name, weight of the fish, the date & time the fish was weighed in and must be completed/signed by the B&T shop. I will hopefully have consistent weigh slips at the most popular shops.
NEW THIS YEAR: a picture of the fish on the scale is required to be submitted as well. This was decided after a few issues with weigh slips caused by the difference of digital and analog scales. I already have some participants that do this, and have found errors made by weigh masters regarding digital vs analog scales. This has benefitted some entrants, and been a negative for others. Overall it is to make sure the tournament is fair for all. Be proud of your catch and make sure you take some pictures!
Slips can be submitted by emailing a clear photo of the weigh slip and attaching it to an email including your name and phone number. The email address to submit an entry is BSCFluketournament@gmail.com . All fish submissions must be received by 11:59pm at the completion of the time period. The time a weigh-in is emailed will be used as a tiebreaker if necessary.
Dates as follows: All submissions due by 11:59pm the final day of the period
Period 1 Weigh slip deadline Fri. 5/31
Period 2 Weigh slip deadline Sun. 6/30
Period 3 Weigh slip deadline Wed. 7/31
Period 4 Weigh slip deadline Sat. 8/31
Period 5 Weigh slip deadline Mon. 9/25
The committee plans to post announcements on our Facebook page and will encourage all participants to post updates and pictures of their catches during this event. Bragging rights and a little good-hearted banter among club members will be encouraged!! If we do not get enough participation in either the boat or surf division we will refund all the money sent for that division as soon as possible. We will update via club email or on our Facebook page once we have confirmation of the total number of participants and the final amounts for the 5 period prize pools. If anyone has a question please feel free to reach out to any of the Tournament Committee members for clarification as follows:
